Šćepanović and colleagues distinguish greenery that is present from greenery that is encountered. Their iconic idea is the separation of on-road vegetation, visible during ordinary movement, from off-road green space requiring deliberate visitation. The theoretical contribution is an exposure-based account of urban nature that challenges aerial or proximity metrics for treating inaccessible, private or perceptually absent vegetation as equivalent to lived contact. Methodologically, aerial imagery, OpenStreetMap, more than one hundred thousand street-view images, road accessibility estimates and billions of National Health Service prescriptions are combined to compare greenness measures with multiple health conditions. The conceptual operation is everyday visibility: environmental benefit is relocated from abstract land cover to the routes through which urban life unfolds. The wider bridge connects public health, urban morphology, computer vision and mobility studies. The findings imply that small, continuous and publicly visible vegetation may matter more than secluded green quantity, shifting planning attention from aggregate provision toward the experiential distribution of greenery across daily networks.
