This study of Juan Daniel Fullaondo identifies a productive split between drawing as projective instrument and drawing as autonomous thought. Fullaondo’s collages, fragments, washes and graphic accumulations exceed the normative obligations of architectural representation; they become a parallel intellectual practice in which ambiguity, autobiography, criticism and resistance remain active. The paper’s most important proposition is that drawing can carry architectural intensity without functioning as a direct precursor to construction. Methodologically, it reads graphic production through archival works and testimony while preserving the contradiction that Fullaondo himself did not equate this activity straightforwardly with “making architecture”. That tension is conceptually valuable: disciplinary proximity does not guarantee ontological equivalence. The wider bridge extends toward art theory and media philosophy, where drawing becomes a site for thinking rather than merely documenting form. The paper therefore complicates any simple hierarchy in which built work is primary and representation secondary, showing that a medium may generate conceptual force precisely by refusing direct translation into building.
